I’ve been obsessed with vintage bowls as jewelry holders. I’ve tried various holders to organize my jewelry but in the end fail at keeping them in their proper places because I’m always in a rush. With bowls it’s perfect because I just take them off and toss them in. They don’t take up too much room and they will still be organized. I have several bowls for rings, bracelets, necklaces, hair pins, etc…
Here’s a cute Japanese vintage ceramic bowl on sale on our etsy. Found it at an awesome deal so we’re passing it on to you. Only $3 plus shipping. Sweet deal huh?
Here are some other cute bowls I found on etsy. These colorful ones are from storybookcharm.etsy.com
I love lotus bowls so I’m in love with these from violetsandgrace
June was a crazy month with many celebrations like graduations and birthdays. With those celebrations came flowers, leis, and balloons. They were pretty for the time being…
But now it’s been a few weeks and the roses have welted and the balloons deflated so I’m trying to get rid of them properly. We tossed the brown flowers into the bushes because we no longer have a compost due to our landlord. The leis I’ve dried to hopefully turn into potpourri or else will also go into the bushes. The mylar balloons I remembered could be re-inflated if the valve is still accessible. I worked at Longs Drugs years ago as a teen and remembered this tip from my boss.
Opening to the valve is the silver circle as shown above. The ribbon string needs to be tied right under the valve as pictured so it won’t damage and also to be accessible to re-inflate later. I found a gal on RecycleThis that shared really useful information about balloons:
Mylar balloons can be re-inflated with helium if you take good care of them (properly and carefully deflate them when they begin losing air, taking care to not damage the valve in the neck of the balloon, fold them up and store them in a cool dark place). When getting latex balloons, ask for Qualatex or Betallic brand. Both are 100% biodegradable and have a half life of about 3 weeks (not very long) both are made with natural latex instead of plastic (which does not biodegrade for a very long time).
From: the girl who worked in a balloon store for 10 years!
Here’s the rest of the stuff I salvaged from the bouquet of balloons. The clips I could use as clothespins but at the moment I have them in the kitchen to use as clips to close bags of chips and such. The balloon weight I added to my “party” box for now until I come up with something clever.
I re-inflated my balloons with regular air with a basketball pump since I plan to just simply give them to kids at my yard sale this week. We’ll use them to attract people first and give them away as we go.
Been sick for the last week :( and I kept filling my trash with tissue paper which made me even more sad so I was happy to find this at the store today while I picked up Theraflu (yuck) and Ricolas (yum).
Kleenex® Naturals
Premium facial tissue made with 20% recycled fiber
Kleenex® Naturals tissue is made with SoftBlend® fiber which combines high quality, post-consumer recycled fiber with virgin fiber to give product softness and quality.
And if you look on the bottom, the box is made from 100% recycled paper. I was afraid the tissue might be rough but it’s still soft! Maybe because I’ve been too poor to afford real tissue paper. But it was on sale for $.99. It’s pretty too.

Our Review on EcoTools
**update: Now that I’ve been using this brush for about a month, I’ve got new updates about it. It’s definitely not a great brush for blending so it’s only great for applying one color eye shadows. A pro I found was that I like how it has a fine sturdy tip which I find useful for applying eyeshadow under my eyes. I like applying small amounts of light shades under the eye to brighten them up.
I purchased mine at Walgreens and I was very surprised that it was so affordable. I only needed an eyeshadow brush which was around $4. My friend grabbed their set for around $12. My cousin purchased the set as well and we all agree that we really really love how soft the brushes are! It’s made out of synthetic taklon bristles which is why it’s 100% cruelty free. It’s very sleek and I liked their packaging a lot. They also shared a green tip on the back:
Green Tip: Buy fresh foods instead of frozen. Frozen food uses 10 times more energy to produce.
Also 1% of their annual sales are donated to environmental organizations.
If you’ve purchased EcoTools, comment if you personally liked them or not.
??? about synthetic bristles- I’m not sure if this is a good or bad thing. I know they say that it’s 100% cruelty-free so it’s good but that makes me curious about how natural bristles are made. I’ll look into that later.
Since today was really hot, I decided to be productive and take advantage of the heat even though I just wanted to sit and melt away. Thus, I did laundry and it reminded me to make this post. We don’t have lines in the backyard but that doesn’t stop me from line drying. My laundry is all over the house wherever there’s sunlight and space right now. That might be ghetto but who cares, it makes me happy. I go around after a few hours to collect and flip the items to make sure they’re well dried.
I love this product information page with all the cute symbols and details about each cosmetic item.
I might try the tinted moisturizer once I’m done with my physcians formula one because I like the light coverage but the price is discouaging for me. I love the whole idea but it’s definitely not for my college budget.
Got my ink cartridges refilled yesterday. I saved $20ish getting them refilled because I remember looking for them at Costco and they were roughly 60 bucks. Since they already had some ready, we just swapped for another set of cartridges and the guy reassured me that although the packages were big, they were used packages. Awesome, two things got recycled, ink cartridges and packaging. It’s my last quarter of college so hopefully I won’t have to through ink as fast ever again!
Plan to enjoy the weather again by continuing our letterboxing adventures. Will share about it tomorrow.
Yay! I finally found my pictures of Rag Curls results from way back when I had long hair. As previously blogged, rag curls are using strips of fabrics from old t-shirts (old sheets, pillow cases, anything fabric) to curl your hair. These pictures are almost a year old. Honestly the one thing I miss about my long hair is being able to do this. I don’t miss anything else about it having long hair though. It was so much work for me because again I’m really lazy. I never blew dried my hair (eco anyway) because I never had the patience and I hated brushing because it’d tire my arms and I’d just make my mainsqueeze do it for me. He didn’t really like the chore but had no choice. Haha I know I’m soo lazy. Super low matience when it comes to myself. I like things simple and get on with my day. So this eco-friendly hair curling technique was really convienent for me because I would just tie my hair with rags at night and sleep in them which resulted in really curly hair depending on how tight you tie it. Because I have super straight hair I really love wavy hair. We always want what we don’t have and those who have it, want what we have. It’s true I tell ya. So embrace what you have, flaunt it, and then use rag curls when you want wavy hair :) But seriously, I wasn’t just talking about hair now. Leave society’s opinions behind, love yourself, and don’t let anyone label you anything negative.
Anyhoo, here are Rag Curls results which I only left in for a few hours and not overnight. Experiment with it. My hair died out gradually throughout the day but I was okay with that.
During finals I was inspired to take care of my skin better and then I started getting into all these beauty stuff. I found out that Physicians Formula has a line of organic eco-friendly makeup. “the first ECOCERT® Certified Organic Line of Makeup in the U.S.” I’ve never used foundation before so I was excited to try it out after I was done with finals today as my reward. Simply went to Longs Drugs store and purchased:
Being green doesn’t necessary mean you have to be a smelly hippy (no offense I love most hippies) so I wanted to prove this by sharing an awesome find when I found RiceBunny’s blog with her amazing natural & eco beauty tutorials. Her blog is so addicting *sigh*

Get Beautiful Curls with Paper Bags or Rags
With the paper bag curl technique you don’t use any heat so it’s healthy for the environment and your hair. Now while the awesome author, RiceBunny in the tutorial uses new cute paper bags, you can take the step to use grocery bags or other recycled paper to add that extra green touch. When I learned to do this, I used strips of fabrics from old t-shirts (old sheets, pillow cases, anything fabric) instead called “rag curls”. You can youtube this and try both to see what works better for you. Either way, they’re both eco. I personally haven’t curled with paper yet and that’s because my hair is too short at the moment. It was pretty comfortable to sleep in the fabric strips.
