Vintage Boots

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek.

If you know me, you know I can really make that noise.  I am going to splurge tonight & get me a pair of yummy vintage boots.  Size 6 please! I am going to share with you the ones I am looking and hopefully inspire you to get some yourself so I don’t feel as bad.  teehee.  Here are some directions if you would like to shop for some yourself.  Head on over to Etsy, select vintage under the pull down menu, input your shopping item & size, and then sort by Price: low to high (if you’re on a budget like me).

Eco Tip: Shop for awesome vintage goods instead of mass produced and avoid omg-she’s-wearing-the-same-dress moments.

Upcycle Candy Tins

I have to confess that I have a thing for tins.  I’ve decided to share my tin hoarding to others who love to upcycle these fun containers into cute gift boxes and such.

Here are photos of my previous tin alterations:

Please excuse the poor photography from back then.  I always upcycled the tins as birthday containers to hold earrings and magnets.

How To: Paper Swallows Wall Decor

How to: Paper Swallows Wall Decor

blogg

I came up with a quick, easy, and cheap-o solution for my decor and decals craving.   I saw these set of birds as wall decor at Target and I was real tempted.  But it was all plastic and came with a ton of pushpins so it was a no-go for me.  Plus, I didn’t want to spend any money on home decor when my stay here at this location is decided on a month-month basis.  So here are some examples of wall decals I’ve been drooling over:

There are tons more but I’m trying to make this a quick blog to get on with my errands so that’s just a teaser for you.  I combined the idea of wall vinyl decals & the 3D plastic birds from Target to come up with these paper swallows.

Easy Peezy Instructions

  • paper scraps- try to keep it eco!  I used only one brand new sheet of black paper.  The rest were from scraps I saved.
  • double-sided tape
  1. Trace or freehand out image of your choice.  I just googled and traced mine.  teehee*
  2. Cut them out.  I slightly curled the wings on my swallows to give them a 3D look.
  3. Slap them randomly on your walls.
  4. Tah-dah!  Told you, easy peeeeezy.

Eco DIY Speakers

06.11.09

Wanted to prove to my great friend Katrina that I truly did love my birthday gift.  She got me these cool DIY eco speakers.

“Plug and play design and universal compatibility allow you to play music from whatever kind of system you want. Crafted by Merkury, these speakers are portable, fun and made with 70% recycled materials. Sounds good to us! Imported. Wipe clean.” -urbanoutfitters

I didn’t use the color pencils that came along with the kit but I do have plans to turn those into something else.  Instead, I busted out my faux bois rubber stamp which I’ve been dying to use.  Here are the results:

I liked how she explained about obtained and perceived obsolescence and the vicious materialistic lifestyle we’ve been sucked into.

Pillows

Dear Friends & Family,

My housemates & I are working on a project that calls for old pillows donations.  I’m going to keep the details of what it is for a secret for another post.  But please throw them our way as we’d greatly appreciate it! :)

Q:  What if the pillows are housing a lot of sweat, tears, and are really old? Or are those qualities you want? Hahha.

A:  YES!  Yes, it is what we want.  The more unwanted the better!  It’ll make me feel all warm & fuzzy to give it a new home & purpose.

Selling in the Garden

Life’s been rolling along faster than I could keep up with so I’m really behind on my posts.  The craft sale in July was fun.  Didn’t make enough sales to make me rich yet but maybe next time.  Met a lot of great local artists and it was a beautiful, beautiful day in a cute garden setting.

Ended up loving my last minute table sign.  With great help from some awesome obedient boys, I decided to use an old cork bulletin board for my sign.  Grabbed some color tape to make the background and then my friend drew out my monsters and painstakingly cut them out from cardboard.  That was my goal, to make my sign from recycled materials so I was very satisfied.

We checked in & grabbed lunch at Charlie Hong Kong.  Don’t be fooled or offended by their name haha.  Don’t expect your “pho” to taste like pho because it won’t!  I just ignore what the dishes claim to be because they’re very good in their own way.  This was their green curry chicken rice bowl.  They use organic greens and the food always tastes fresh.  Loved my green tea pomegrante drink.  Best one I’ve had.
yard-sale-019Cute garden setting at the Crepe place.  Saw cute couples, families, and friends on a beautiful lunch date.  That needs to be me next time.

yard-sale-016Here’s an artist I really loved.  He’s freelancing and his work really stood out.

yard-sale-014Awesome details, huh?
